PLEASE NOTE: Beginning August 8, 2010 the ZSR on-line application system will be down for scheduled maintenance from midnight-2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday of each month. If you are working on an application on the previous Saturday night, you will need to save changes prior to midnight or else your work will be lost.
8.4.10:
“The Foundation continually strives to improve its grant applications and application processes. Our applications are tweaked between grant cycles to make them more user-friendly and reader-friendly. As a result, our on-line application system cannot be accessed from February 3-May 15 and August 3-November 15 while changes are made.
However, we have posted PDFs of our grant applications so that potential applicants can view the most recent versions of the applications. We expect that minor changes will be made prior to the next deadline, but the general framework of the application and the gist of the questions will remain the same. Thus, if someone wishes to begin completing an application while our on-line system is down, s/he may begin crafting answers to the application questions and can paste the answers into the application once the system is turned back on.
If you wish to apply for a grant, please revisit the web site after May 15 for the August 1 deadline and November 15 for the February 1 deadline in order to access our on-line application system.”

Before beginning an application:
While using the online application:
You must create an account in order to save an incomplete application. To create an account:
Each application requires certain financial and legal documents to be uploaded as attachments (for answers to frequently asked questions about the required financial documents, click here.) NOTE: Organizations should ONLY send one copy of each item, whether uploaded, e-mailed to documents@zsr.org or snail mailed.
1. Financial information:
Attach the following documents. Save each item as a separate document (of one page in length, if possible).
Note: If you are applying on behalf of a college/university or governmental entity, please provide information relevant to your department, program, or appropriate governmental sub-unit in whatever form it now exists.
2. Board List:
Please provide name, city, state and occupation of each of your board members. Also provide a brief explanation of how members are selected.
3. Tax-Exempt Status:
The Foundation must receive a copy of the petitioning organization's federal tax-exempt certification under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code that includes a determination as to the organization's status as a publicly-supported organization. Governmental units need not submit these documents. Please be aware that the Foundation will not make pass-through grants from one organization to another.
4. Prior Grantee Reporting Document(s):
If you received a past grant from ZSR, you may retrieve from our website the reporting form(s) specific to your organization's grant status. Upon completion, upload these documents with this application. Be sure to submit all necessary reporting forms for prior grants to ensure that your current request is processed and unhindered by missing requirements. Please note that a new application will be accepted, but may be withdrawn from consideration unless all past evaluation requirements are satisfied. The different types of reporting tools are outlined below:
a. Final Report - All prior grantees are required to complete and submit this comprehensive evaluation no later than 15 months from the date of payment on a one-year grant or from date of last payment on a multi-year grant.
b. Progress Report - If your organization is a current grantee and plans to apply for additional funds, the Foundation must received a progress report on any prior grant for which you have not yet submitted a final report. This document should describe the ongoing, Foundation-support initiative(s) for which you sought funding. In addition, a progress report is due 12 months from the date of the first-year payment on a multi-year grant.
